American YouTube star Jenna Mourey, better known known by her social media name Jenna Marbles, is leaving YouTube after controversy erupted over her racially offensive videos from the past.
Jenna, who rose to fame in 2010 with her legendary ‘how to trick people into thinking you’re good looking’, had more than 20 million subscribers on YouTube and her videos have amassed more than 3.3 billion views.
Yesterday, she released a video explaning that she has done some ‘questionable’ videos in the past and is therefore now leaving the platform which made her famous.
Speaking without makeup and with her glasses on, Jenna said : “I feel like we’re at a time where we are purging ourselves of anything and everything toxic.”
Black Lives Matter personalities have pointed to her Nicki Minaj impersionation in which Jenna did blackface. In another video widely scorned on social media, she raps about Asian people whilst saying “Hey Ching Chong Wing Wong, shake your King Kong ding dong.”
In response, she stated : “It was not my intention to do blackface.”
“I do want to tell you how unbelievably sorry I am if I ever offended you by posting this video or by doing this impression, and that that was never my intention. It’s not okay. It’s shameful. It’s awful. I wish it wasn’t part of my past.”
By the end of the A Message video Jenna becomes quite emotional and thanks her followers for their support over the years.
